JugJugg Jeeyo – What’s the taboo in here?

Introduction:

JugJugg Jeeyo takes you on a roller coaster ride as it zaps its way exploring subjects like male chauvinism -failed marriages – divorces – falling out of love (be it after 5 or 35 years). According to a movie critic “It’s a tale of two couples from different generations, entangled around the issues post marriage. The premise beautifully merges the generation gap, and puts out a unique point about love, but with ample humor.”

JugJugg Jeeyo, which has an IMBD rating of 6.1, has undoubtedly touched people’s hearts as it explores how marriages may become monotonous and individuals can lose their love even after spending close to three decades together. Isn’t it something extremely taboo in desi Punjabi families? Well, this movie is certainly another way round!

The movie maintains a rhythm that keeps you interested in the good and bad times that the Saini family experiences from the opening scene to the end. Anurag Singh’s narrative and Rishabh Sharma’s dialogues successfully complement one another to provide circumstances that will make you smile, weep, feel the characters, and most importantly, laugh a lot. What I liked best about the movie is that, even in the most dramatic scene, there are moments of humor that don’t feel forced or out of place.

Directed by Raj Mehta, the movie’s leading actors include Varun Dhawan, Kiara Advani, Anil Kapoor, and Neetu Kapoor. This top-notch cast exceeds expectations. The song Nain Ta Heere which plays at the beginning of Jugjugg Jeeyo, tells the story of Kuku (Varun Dhawan) and Naina (Kiara Advani), from their days as childhood sweethearts to a married couple.

* Parents and children both facing similar marital issues; isn’t it novel?

The pair, who have since moved to Toronto, Canada, is living a dull marriage with a hunch to be separated soon. Kuku works as a bouncer in a nightclub, whilst Naina portrays a white-collar role. Due to continuous silences, unresolved arguments, and bitter hearts, Kuku and Naina’s marriage crumbles, and they decide to file for divorce. But for one final time, they consent to act as though they are a happily married couple for Ginny’s (Kuku’s sister) wedding back at home.

However, things twisted when Kuku was shocked to learn that his parents were living a troubled marriage and now thinking to divorce. Here begins the beauty of the film which makes it different from other movies how a father easily confided in a son about his failed marriage and that he has found a new love too. Now that’s what you call a Bollywood drama! Following the box office slump caused by Laal Singh Chadda, Jug Jugg Jeeyo’s re-release has generated 130 crores in revenue worldwide.

* A new look to old-fashioned MIL–DILL relationship

New Look to the old MIL DILL relationship

The father-son relationship and relationship between the Saas Bahu was another unique aspect of this movie. The scenes between Kiara and Neetu are so powerful that they almost give the impression of a motivational empowering talk. The jinxed mother-in-law-daughter connection has been depicted in a new light; one wishes that having a mother-in-law who understands and loves unreservedly existed in reality.

Numerous scenes between Neetu and Kiara will make anyone cry, particularly the one over a bottle of wine along the river; the two women shared such a profound bond and intensely honest emotions.

As Kuku suffers in his profession while his wife has been progressing, he realized that his male ego had gotten the best of him and his inadequate investment in making the relationship work. Kuku’s dad is also made aware of the patriarchal outlook and male chauvinism. What makes JJJ appealing is that it offers an urban realistic perspective on marriage and divorce that highlights certain legitimate responses.

JugJugg Jeeyo isn’t one of those conventional films that take an orthodox view of relationships, even though the characters are fundamentally desi. The movie digs into both the issue of divorce and also the means to stop it: discuss problems, see things from others’ perspectives, empathize, forgive, and move on.

It emphasizes the importance of mutual respect and trust in a relationship, regardless of whether a couple chooses an arranged marriage (for the elder generation) or a love marriage (for the younger generation).

Overall, Jug Jug Jeeyo has won. The ideal soup as it flawlessly strikes a balance between drama, humor, and emotions. This is as Bollywood as it gets in Bollywood.
